Cosmoprof 2015 Review: Water Proof Sealing Spray for Body Painting Fixierspray by Eulenspiegel

Cosmoprof 2015 is in full swing at Bologna's Fiera District, and we are glad to be meeting again with our friends from German brand Eulenspiegel, who will grace the show with their very popular range of professional quality, fairly priced makeup and accessories for theatre, special effects and body painting. You too can find them right at Pavilion 16, stand G26.

Last year we reviewed Eulespiegel's great line of highly pigmented airbrushable water based colors for body painting. This time we had a chance to test and use another very interesting product that can be used to render those very colors water resistant, increasing their duration and their resistance under more strenuous performance situations. Its name is Fixierspray, and it is sold in three sizes (50, 150 and 500 ml), all coming in clear plastic bottles equipped with a spray pump for easy atomization.
This product is of course alcohol based, and it is a completely clear liquid with a very faint, non irritant alcohol smell that will quickly disperse to leave no residual odor whatsoever. Fixierspray dries to a shiny finish which can be neutralized by using clear powder.

Eulenspiegel Fixierspray
Eulenspiegel's manager quickly demonstrated the power of this product right under our eyes, and we are repeating that demonstration in the photos that we are including in this review (please click on the photo to enlarge it): we airbrushed a shape with a water based color, then covered half of it with a thin sheet of plastic and sprayed the exposed part with Fixierspray, then we allowed it to dry thoroughly. We removed the protective plastic and doused water on the shape. Not just a little water, but almost a whole bottle. When the water dried, the half of the design that had been spritzed with Fixierspray was almost perfectly intact, revealing only a very faint smudging at the edges. The other half of the design had almost been entirely washed away. The product proved a definite success, and totally worth its reasonable price of under 10 euros for a 50 ml bottle.

We look forward to reviewing more products from this friendly company. Eulenspiegel ships all over Europe from their website. You can also browse their show schedule and visit the next trade show they will attend, where you will be able to check with your own eyes their great variety of products.

Eulenspiegel: quality Airbrush Body Painting from Germany at the rightprice!

Eulenspiegel is a German makeup brand with a straight forward philosophy: to offer a quality line of body painting and fantasy makeup products at an accessible price. We are not using the word "quality" lightly here: the products are certified according to all the current European standards, they are hypo allergenic, and gluten, paraben and animal cruelty free. We have had the pleasure of meeting the Eulenspiegel Team at Cosmoprof 2013 in Italy, and we will see them again this year during the 2014 edition of the trade show, where as usual their stand will be crowded with customers attracted by the wide product range and by the decidedly affordable prices that they offer.

For the discipline of airbrush body painting, Eulenspiegel produced "Airbrush Star", a series of 30 highly pigmented airbrushable colours in 30 ml bottles for the great price of 6,95 Euros per colour. The products are water based, and according to the literature they are suitable for airbrushes with a 2.0 nozzle and up. After trying them I can confirm that this is correct, however given the viscosity of the liquids, at least in their undiluted form, I would definitely recommend using them with an airbrush with a 0.35 nozzle and up.
The colour payoff is actually excellent: all you need is a few drops and a few passes to cover a wide area effectively. For a whole adult face, for example, 12 drops will be more than enough to achieve a complete, solid coverage. The colours will need a few minutes to dry completely, and you may want to set them with a colour free powder to speed drying. Once dry, they will have a very good stability and they will be resistant to water, sweat and transfer.
The only downside that I have found with this product is the difficulty in removing the pigment from the airbrush once application is over. Because of its high pigmentation, the product will leave a persistent residue that will require very thorough cleaning at the end of session. This however does not represent a problem during the session itself, because the residue will not clog the nozzle, and there will be no particular need for cleaning in between colours.
If you are on a budget, you may chose to buy just the primary colours and mix them to achieve almost any shade, but you will find it hard to resist the beautiful pre mixed shades that are readily available on the online store.

Shipping from Germany is fast and cost effective, so you can try this line by ordering directly from the original website to your own Country.

PRO TIP: be sure to cut off the tip of the nozzle on the bottle as little as possible: if you cut it too low, a gap between the nozzle and the bottle cap will form and the colour will spill everywhere the next time you open the bottle.

Coverage with just three drops of colour White.

Airbrush Makeup at Cosmoprof 2013

New energies at play...

Today I can finally catch up after 4 straight days at Cosmoprof 2013 in Bologna, Italy, where I had the lucky job of finding out new products for a feature on Trucco e Bellezza magazine, the only Italian glossy publication entirely dedicated to makeup.
The show is barely over  but I can already tell you that I have met several very interesting Airbrush Makeup producers who are to introduce this wonderful medium to the European makeup scene:

Mistair is a British company with an amazingly comprehensive line of products including silicone based makeup, alcohol based body paints, polymer based Nail Art colours and  even water based colour for Hair and a water based series for special effects and body painting called MistFX.

Technoair is a fantastic line of waterbased products for face, body and nails coming from Spain and created by airbrushing Guru Luìs Dìaz, who is not only a master makeup artist, but has formulated the entire line of products and designed the wide range of equipment the company proudly offers.

Full video reports with interviews and tutorials on both Mistair and Technoair will be coming soon to our YouTube channel.

We have met with several more brands, Allisis from Korea (beauty makeup), and Ten Image by Cazcarra from Spain (beauty and body art) and Eulenspiegel from Germany (body art), and we look forward to writing about them too and including them in our LINKS DIRECTORY page!

In spite of the economic downturn and some truly crazy March weather, I was happy to see some new energies finally at play even here in Italy. Stay tuned...
